Reece Hignell Biography – Reece Hignell Wiki
Reece Hignell is a pastry chef and contestant on Dessert Masters 2024. He is the owner of Cakeboi, a bakery business which launched in 2020. He was previously on MasterChef Australia Season 10 (2018) and MasterChef Australia: Back To Win Season 12 (2020).
Growing up, Reece was inspired and taught in the kitchen by his beloved late Nan, who could whip up beautiful baked treats at the drop of a hat. Though he worked in hospitality as a youth, he entered a career in recruitment, but soon realised it wasn’t his happy place. It was following his first MasterChef Australia appearance in 2018 that he had the courage to chase his true passion, according to his Dessert Masters bio.
Alongside managing the success of Cakeboi, Reece has also found time for new endeavours, having recently launched Acacia Dining in Maitland and undertaking a 12-month residency at QT Hotel Newcastle, featuring high teas complete with a decked-out Cakeboi trolley.
In 2022 Reece published his first cookbook, Cakeboi: A Collection Of Classic Bakes, and recently, Reece proudly announced the upcoming release of a brand new cookbook, Cakeboi Goes Vegan, inspired by his own adoption of a plant-based diet four years ago.

Reece Hignell Partner
MasterChef’s Reece Hignell lives in Newcastle with his partner Dene. In an interview with TV WEEK, Reece revealed that his inaugural MasterChef Australia season (10) took a toll on his relationship with his partner Dene.
“It [the show] definitely affected it,” he told TV WEEK at the time. “Leaving your partner for six months is hard – it was tough. Dene was at home looking after bills by himself, and I’m out here not contributing. So, I felt very guilty.”
“You can’t just sit and talk on the phone, because other people need to use it,” he added. “You don’t have unlimited time to talk, but even when you do talk it’s hard to get everything across. I felt guilty I wasn’t contributing to the relationship as much as I could.”
Reece said his partner was beyond thrilled for him when he was asked to return to MasterChef Australia: Back To Win in 2020. “Dene was super excited for me to return, maybe even more excited than I was!” Reece told Woman’s Day.
