Ray Walters Biography – Ray Walters Wiki
Ray Walters is a British pen restoration expert and owner of RAW, a business developing a unique collection of fountain pens. He previously owned Vintage And Modern Pens. He is also an expert on The Repair Shop on BBC One.
Born in Jamaica, Ray lived with his grandmother before joining his parents to live in England at the age of 7. He began collecting fountain pens at 18. Walters’ journey, which began with the Parker 51, has today evolved into a personal archive of more than 80 vintage pens. He has a particular fondness for 1950s Montblancs.
During a tour of the United States of America in 2012, his curiosity was piqued by an advert for the Miami Pen Show — a stadium-sized showcase of the world’s finest pens, inks and paper paraphernalia — and he went along. “It blew me away,” Ray told ABASK. The following year, Ray transitioned from his successful career in fashion buying and product development to set up his own business, sourcing and selling vintage fountain pens around the world.
More recently, Ray has developed his own unique collection of fountain pens, RAW, an acronym of his name, Ray Archibald Walters. He works with artisans across the globe to source materials, including specialist precision German nib makers and English engravers, before assembling the pens in his studio.

The Repair Shop
Pen restoration expert Ray Walters is an expert on the BBC’s The Repair Shop. Making his debut in the barn, Ray undertakes the delicate task of returning a fountain pen that played a remarkable role in a wartime love story back to full working order.
“First into the barn are siblings Paul Murray and Josette Sellings with a fountain pen that played a remarkable role in their parents’ wartime love story. Their father, Frank Murray, bought the pen in Singapore before becoming a prisoner of war following the Japanese capture of the city. Over 42 months in captivity, Frank used the pen to write a secret diary in the form of love letters to his sweetheart Eileen, the woman he would later marry on his return from the war.
Decades later, the pen is damaged, incomplete and no longer functional. Making his debut in the barn, pen restoration expert Ray Walters undertakes the delicate task of returning this powerful symbol of devotion back to full working order.”
