Rachel Mac is an American teen who is a singer and songwriter. She is a contestant and finalist in NBC’s The Voice season 20. She forms part of the team of musician Nick Jonas commonly referred to as Team Jonas on the show. She was born and raised in Romeo, Michigan. She began to use music as a way to express herself and is a self-described hippie at heart. She has dreamed of being on “The Voice” since she was young and once gave a school presentation on how much she likes Blake Shelton. Rachel is currently a sophomore in high school and participates in theater, marching band, and choir, and she also finds the time to lead youth worship at her church.
She was brought up listening mostly to country and Christian music, first singing publicly at LakePointe Community Church in Shelby Township, where her father is a worship leader — as is Mac now. Her tastes finally grew in include “the ’70s kind of singer-songwriter era,” including Linda Ronstadt, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, the Bee Gees, and The Carpenters. She was a fan of “The Voice,” too, and at a friend’s suggestion entered the virtual auditions for Season 20 and was invited to take part in the blind auditions round. She joined the competition as a big fan of judge Blake Shelton, but it was Jonas who turned his chair around as she performed “Let Him Fly.” She said she could not have asked for a better coach. “I think Nick really helps me in … finding out who I am as an artist and being confident in myself,” she said. “He was young when he started in the industry, so he helps me navigate the competition and the industry in general.” Her emotive rendition of Christina Perri’s “Human,” scored Mac a chance to be in the finals.
