Philip Serrell is an Antique Expert, auctioneer, and television presenter from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. He is known for his appearances on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt. He says that antiques found him rather than the other way round, as he was approached by the series producer of the day and recorded the first Bargain Hunt filmed at Malvern in 1999 which was broadcast the following year. Philip only ever thought he’d do one programme!
Prior to pursuing auctioneering, he worked as a PE and Geography teacher. For his first job, he worked as a cleaner where he was cleaning out the cattle pens at a local livestock market, working for the Bromyard-based firm Bentley Hobbs and Mytton. After several years he was able to start his own business, he established ‘Philip Serrell Auctioneers and Valuers’ in 1995. His business has grown and now specializes in the sale and valuation of Royal Worcester Porcelain, as well as other items of Fine Art and Antiques, with clients all over the world.
With more than three-decade of experience as an auctioneer, Philip has written three books based on his life as a country auctioneer. His published works are: An Auctioneer’s Lot and Sold to the Man with the Tin Leg. He also regularly appears on many antiques television programs such as The Antiques Road Trip, Flog It!, as well as being a winning competitor on Celebrity Mastermind! Philip is a Patron at the St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester and a Trustee of the Museum of Royal Worcester. He attended Loughborough University where he earned his BSc. In his spare time, he enjoys watching sports, he supports the Worcester Warriors rugby club.
In 2017, he started on a music career with fellow BBC Antique Experts Charles Hanson, Charlie Ross, and James Braxton by recording a Rock version of the classic “Sleigh Ride” in aid of BBC Children In Need. It was released digitally on independent record label Saga Entertainment and peaked at number 1 on the Amazon Rock Charts. In 2018, he again took to the microphone with Charlie Ross, James Braxton, and 24 celebrities, to perform a new Christmas song called “Rock With Rudolph”. The song was released digitally on 30 November 2018 through independent record label Saga Entertainment, in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. The music video debuted exclusively with The Sun in November 2018 and had its first TV showing on Good Morning Britain on 30 November 2018. The song peaked at number two on the iTunes pop chart.
