Paul Wong is a judge of the O’ahu First Circuit of Hawaii. He was appointed to the First Circuit Court on December 20, 2017, by Governor David Y. Ige and currently presides over criminal felony cases. Before he was appointed Circuit Judge, he served as a District Judge of the First Circuit. Judge Wong was sworn in as Judge of the District Court of the First Circuit on May 29, 2012.

Prior to his appointment as a District Judge of the First Circuit, Judge Wong was a Partner at McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon, LLP, since 2005. Before that, he worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the City and County of Honolulu.

Judge Wong was presented with the 2021 Jurist of the Year Award by Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald, at the Hawaii State Judiciary’s Statewide Incentive Awards Ceremony on October 29. The award recognizes judiciary personnel for public service and efforts to improve court operations and programs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Judge Wong became the chair of the Committee on Operational Solutions, which was tasked with maintaining vital court services while ensuring the safety of court users, staff, and judges.

Education

Judge Wong earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Southern California and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Boston College Law School in 1993. While in law school, he received the West Publishing Company Award for Significant Contribution to the Law School and served as President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students’ Association.
