Naga Munchetty is a British television presenter, newsreader and journalist who regularly presents BBC Breakfast and Newsnight. She began her career as a journalist on the City Pages for the London Evening Standard alongside working on the business section of The Observer.
After establishing herself in journalism and working in it for some time, Naga then began her television career for Reuters Financial Television as a reporter. Shortly after this, she got a job for CNBC Europe as senior producer, admittedly a big step up from her previous job. From there, Naga then went on to be a business producer for Channel 4 News and a presenter.
With a clear passion for television and media, Naga joined Working Lunch after the show was re-vamped in October of 2008 and stayed with the programme until it was cancelled in July of 2010. Munchetty has hosted Radio 4’s Money Box and also reports from the City for BBC News, gauging the reaction to breaking financial stories such as the Budget, and the Pre-Budget report. Since August of 2010, Munchetty has presented early morning bulletins on the BBC News Channel as well as BBC World News. She is a regular presenter on BBC’s Breakfast, broadcast every morning.
Additionally to this, Munchetty co-hosted The Spending Review – The South Today Debate on BBC One with Sally Taylor in September 2010. Also hosting Paranormal Investigation, Newsnight and Sunday Morning Live and narrating Faith In Paris, Munchetty is without a doubt one of the most well-known presenters for the BBC.

Where are Naga Munchetty’s parents from? Her mother, Muthu, is from Tamil Nadu, India and her father is from Mauritius. Munchetty told The Sunday Times Magazine: “My mum had come over from India in the early 1970s, and my dad from Mauritius. They met in the valleys in Wales, where she was studying dentistry and he nursing, but after they got married they settled in London.”
“My main memories of my upbringing are of just how strict my parents were. I wasn’t allowed sleepovers or parties. They didn’t trust anyone with their kids, which I understand now, because they were far from home and they were fearful. They wanted to protect us.”
She added: “They became nurses, and both worked incredibly hard, usually on the night shift. But I remember mum always being home to cook for us, feed us and clean. She would vacuum every single day. When I think about how some families operate now — with helpers, cleaners, gardeners — my parents didn’t have any of that. They just did it all on their own.”

We wanted to rent a place of our own, but Mum insisted that we come to live with them so that we could save up to buy our own house. That must have been a massive decision for them.”
