Minal Patel is Head Chef at Prashad, an award-winning, family-run vegetarian Indian restaurant in Drighlington, Bradford. She is a contestant on Great British Menu 2025.
Minal grew up in Gujarat in Western India. Learning to cook with her mum, it was clear from a young age that cooking would be central to her life. She along with her friends would role play, where Minal would be the Head Chef.
Minal moved to the UK in 2004 when she married her husband Bobby Patel. She had to adapt and learn a new culture, a new language whilst working in her family business, a traditional Indian mithai shop. She worked with her mother-in-law, Kaushy Patel, in the kitchen and started to develop an understanding of the western pallet.
As a lifelong vegetarian, Minal went to catering college and did a stage at Gordon Ramsay’s Petrus in London. Her cooking icons are Gordon Ramsey, Atul Kochar and Sanjeev Kapoor.
Prashad is a vegetarian Indian restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which recognises friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices. According to The Yorkshire Post, Prashad is the only two-star AA and Michelin Bib Gourmand Indian Restaurant in Yorkshire. In 2010, Minal steered Prashad to success when it finished runner-up in the Channel 4 show Ramsey’s Best Restaurants.
Prashad is a family run restaurant that serves authentic, Gujarati vegetarian food – taking the families food heritage, and inherited recipes, and putting her own twist on dishes to create something traditional but also new. Minal’s ambition is to obtain another rosette, and she is always striving for perfection in her cooking.

Prashad Head Chef Minal Patel is competing in the 20th series of Great British Menu. Her menu celebrates vegetarian, Gujarati cuisine, and highlights some Great Britons from the North East and Yorkshire. She will be competing in the North East and Yorkshire heat alongside Scott John-Hodgson, Callum Leslie, and Ahmed Abdalla.
Announcing the news, a post on Prashad Restaurant’s Instagram said: “The news is out. Prashad head chef Minal is on this year’s Great British Menu! The North East and Yorkshire heats start on Tuesday 18th and we can’t wait for you to see it (and watch it ourselves).
“Can you believe we’ve been tuning in to GBM for 20 fantastic years? This year celebrates ‘Great Britons’ – historical figures from our region and beyond. And just wait until you see what Minal has cooked up.
“Well done to the eagle-eyed amongst you who recognised Minal in the intro. We’ve been getting messages since the start of the season and had to keep quiet.
“Good luck to Minal and the three other fantastic chefs in her heat, Callum Leslie from the Black Swan at Oldstead, Scott John-Hodgson from Solstice and Ahmed Abdalla from Legacy.”
