Mimi Weissenborn is the executive chef at Sur Lie in Portland, Gather restaurant in Yarmouth, and Catface Café in Biddeford. She will be competing on Season 22 of Top Chef on Bravo.
Mimi studied at L’Academie de Cuisine before deciding to make the move to pursue a career in the culinary arts in New York. As she worked her way up in various kitchens in the city, Mimi started to find her voice, which became clearer during her successful run as the executive chef of Vinateria, the beloved Spanish and Italian influenced eatery in Harlem.
During her time there, she earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommendation, participated in multiple chef collaborations such as New York City Food & Wine Festival, Harlem Eat Up, helmed a sold-out dinner at the James Beard Foundation House and collaborated on the International Women’s Day Beard House dinner.
She eventually found her way to Portland, Maine and became the executive chef at Sur Lie, a James Beard Award semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurateur and 2023 nominee for Outstanding Hospitality. Since then, she has also taken over the kitchen of Gather and recently opened Catface Cafe.

“As a proud member of the LBGTQ+ community here in Portland, the restaurant has always been my safe place, so that’s what I want to create for others with this new supper club series,” Mimi told FSR magazine at the time of the launch. “There are so few visible Queer chefs, and even fewer that are women, so to be able to create a platform to talk freely about my personal experiences and struggles is something that I’m incredibly passionate about as I hope it will inspire others.”
