Michael Baggott Biography – Michael Baggott Wiki
Michael Baggott was a British antiques dealer and published author. He was well known for his role as an antique expert on the BBC series Flog It! His expertise on the show was focused on antique British silver, boxes and early spoons.
He previously spoke about how his interest in antiques began as a child, and he purchased his first antique – a Chester silver Vesta case for £22 – while he was still at school. It took him a long time to buy it, as he had to save up his dinner money for over a month!
Prior to Flog It!, Baggott started his career in antiques working at the prestigious saleroom Christie’s auction house whilst still at university. After graduation, he went on to run Sotheby’s Billingshurst, where he ran the saleroom’s south silver department for four years. He then worked as a private consultant in antique silver.
Alongside this, Michael carried out research into provincial British silver, having a particular passion for early spoons. He has also written a number of books on antiques and silver, having written An Illustrated Guide to York Hallmarks 1776-1858 among other things, including numerous articles for The Finial, the journal of the Silver Spoon Club of Great Britain.
