Mayo Schmidt is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Nutrien. He was the President and CEO of Nutrien from April 2021 to January 2022. He joined the Agrium board of directors in 2012 and served as Chair of Nutrien’s Board of Directors from May 2019 to April 2021. He previously served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Hydro One Limited, Canada’s largest utility provider.

Prior to joining Hydro One, Schmidt served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Viterra Inc., a Canadian globally diversified agri-business company that delivered agricultural and food ingredient products to customers in over 50 countries. He also held senior positions in other agricultural focussed companies such as ConAgra Grain, Canada and General Mills, Inc.

Schmidt was awarded Canadian Business CEO of the Year-2009, the “Global Expansion Deal of the Year”, “Canadian Dealmakers” Awards-2009, Financial Post “CEO Scorecard” Top 10 Ranking-2011, and Ontario Energy Association “Leader of the Year” Award-2017.

On January 04, 2022, the Board of Directors of Nutrien Ltd. announced that “Mayo Schmidt has left his position as President and CEO of Nutrien and has resigned from the Board.” Ken Seitz, Executive Vice President and CEO of Potash, was named the company’s interim CEO.

“Nutrien has delivered exceptional results in 2021 and is well positioned to continue this strong momentum into 2022,” said Russ Girling, Chair of the Nutrien Board of Directors. “Nutrien has a talented and deep executive team, and we are confident that Ken Seitz and this team will continue to build on the organization’s record financial and operating performance.”
