Malika Andrews is an American sports journalist and reporter. She serves as an NBA reporter and a writer for ESPN. Andrews joined ESPN in October 2018. She made her debut as a sideline reporter during the 2019-20 season at the ESPN World of Sports Complex in Florida, she served as a sideline reporter throughout the NBA Playoffs which made her one of the youngest sideline reporters ever for a Conference Finals telecast. Andrews was named one of the Forbes 30 Under 30 in the sports industry for 2021. She was nominated for an Emmy in the Emerging On-Air Talent category.
Before she joined ESPN, she served as a reporter for one year with the Chicago Tribune. Prior to joining the Chicago Tribune, she served as a James Reston Reporting Fellow in the sports department at The New York Times for one year. Upon Milwaukee Bucks losing to the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals, Giannis Antetokounmpo walked out of the press conference, after Andrews wrote an article saying Giannis Antetokounmpo might leave Bucks if they did not make improvements to win the title before he would become a free agent in 2021.
On July 6, 2021, she was announced as ABC’s sideline reporter for the NBA Finals coverage, she took over for Rachel Nichols, who was replaced after audio was leaked of Nichols disparaging the network’s promotion of analyst Maria Taylor as the primary host of the Finals.
Born in Oakland, California, Andrews attended the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree and graduated with honors. While in college, she served as the editor-in-chief of The Beacon, the university’s student newspaper. She earned awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for her work. In 2016, she won the Best Writer Award among Oregon college students. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
