Mahlon Reyes’ wife, Heather Sullivan, wrote on a memorial Facebook page: “On Saturday 7/26 mahlon suffered a heart attack when paramedics reached him he was not breathing and had no pulse. The doctors, nurses and team at North Valley Hospital worked so hard to get him back and after 45 minutes they were able to get his pulse back. He was transferred to the ICU at KRMC. Mahlon never woke up there was too much time without oxygen, causing irreversible brain damage. On Sunday night our family together made the hardest choice we’ve ever made and that was to remove him from life support.
“Shortly after midnight on July 27th he passed with his brother and mom right by his side <3 His oldest kids, some of his best friends were all with him as well although they couldn’t be by his they were there as well. He was surrounded by so much love.”
She said in another post on Facebook: “Oh this man ❤️ the strongest guy I know, but his body was tired and needed to be at rest ❤️ Walking away from him knowing it would be the last time I would see him was the hardest walk I have ever made 💔 He is now our guardian angel, our forever came way too soon💔 he is my best friend my heart and soul ❤️ the strength that held me up through so much in our life together and I did him.”
Fellow “Deadliest Catch” fisherman Nick McGlashan paid tribute to Reyes on Twitter on July 27, 2020. McGlashan tweeted: “This places misses you. RIP Mahlon.” On July 30, McGlashan shared a group photo of himself and Reyes’ family and friends. McGlashan wrote: “Laughing, crying and remembering our brother Mahlon Reyes of the Summer Bay.”
KDBR 106.3 The Bear wrote on Facebook: “Mahlon Reyes from the Deadliest Catch has passed at the age of 38. Mahlon was a good friend of The Bear radio station. He had a big heart especially where kids were concerned. Mahlon spent hours with us during our St. Jude Radio-thons. Answering phones, talking on the air and getting his fellow Deadliest Catch co-stars to donate to St. Jude. Please pray for God to comfort his family. He was a good man. Mahlon rest in peace my friend.”
Reyes was cremated and his “Deadliest Catch” co-stars are planning to spread his ashes in the Bering Sea, according to his wife.
