Luigi Mangione Biography – Luigi Mangione Wiki

Luigi Mangione is the suspect in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Originally from Towson, Maryland, Luigi was arrested on December 9, 2024 while eating at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, ending an intense manhunt sparked by the killing of Thompson in midtown Manhattan.

“A man was taken into custody today in Altoona, Pennsylvania, this morning [December 9, 2024]. He has been identified as Luigi Nicholas Mangione,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny announced at a news conference. “We know he has ties to San Francisco, California, and his last known address was Honolulu, Hawaii. He has no prior arrest history in New York.”

The 26-year-old was arrested with a ghost gun that uses 9mm bullets, a silencer, a US passport, four fake IDs with names used during the killer’s stint in New York City and a manifesto, law enforcement sources told The New York Post.

“They also recovered clothing, including a mask consistent with those worn by our wanted individual,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference. “Also recovered was a fraudulent New Jersey ID matching the ID our suspect used to check into his New York City hostel before the shooting incident.”

He will first face gun charges in Altoona before being extradited to New York in connection to the Thompson case. The NYPD is sending detectives to Pennsylvania to question the person taken into custody.

“This just happened this morning. We’ll be working, backtracking his steps from New York to Altoona, Pennsylvania,” Kenny said. “At some point, we’ll work out through extradition to bring him back to New York to face charges here, working with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”
