Justin Layne is an American professional footballer. He currently plays as a cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). Layne played college football at Michigan State. On April 23, 2021, Layne was arrested after a traffic stop in Lake County, Ohio. Layne was charged with driving under suspension, a speed limit violation, and having a firearm in his vehicle.

The Cleveland, Ohio native attended Benedictine High School in Cleveland, Ohio. While there, he played cornerback and wide receiver in high school. He was among the nation’s top prospects. Layne then committed to the Michigan State University to play college football. He entered his freshman season at Michigan State in 2016 as a wide receiver but was converted into a cornerback before the fifth game of the season. During his career, he played in 34 games and had 130 tackles, three interceptions, 0.5 sacks, and one touchdown.

Upon his junior season, Layne declared for the 2019 NFL Draft, he decided not to play in the team’s appearance in the Redbox Bowl. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. On July 29, 2020, he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the Steelers but he was activated on August 11, 2020.
