John Cooper is a design technology teacher and a contestant on Interior Design Masters 2025 on BBC One. He is involved in interior design and styling, and Victorian home renovation in Greater Manchester/Cheshire/Yorkshire, according to his Instagram bio.
John had a creative upbringing in Yorkshire and was encouraged to draw, paint and make things by hand by his mother, who is also an artist. He studied model making at art school and worked as a prop and costume maker for theatre, TV and film before becoming an architectural model maker. His 3D models were exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Venice Biennale.

John Cooper is a contestant on Series 6 of BBC One’s Interior Design Masters, hosted by Alan Carr and judged by Michelle Ogundehin. Speaking about his main motivation in applying to be part of Interior Design Masters, John told the BBC:
“After watching every season of Interior Design Masters and becoming a bit of an armchair critic, my wife dared me to prove I could do better. That challenge sparked something in me. Beyond just the competition, I’ve always had a deep passion for interiors, and I saw this show as the perfect opportunity to combine my love for design with a chance to express myself creatively and step outside my comfort zone.”
On what viewers can expect from the series, he said: “Get ready for all your favourite design challenges, plus a few wild design briefs that nobody will be expecting. The bar is set incredibly high from episode one, with each designer bringing their own one-of-a-kind style and creative background to the table. We experienced mostly highs but we each face our fair share of challenges, with plenty of drama and laughs to keep things exciting.”
Asked about the celebrity/public figure he could choose to design a room for and why, John said: “It would have to be Helena Bonham Carter. She is cool, quirky and marches to the beat of her own drum. I think she would be open to an imaginative and eccentric interior.”
