Jeremy Richman was a neuro-pharmacologist, co-founder of The Avielle Foundation and a Faculty Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale’s School of Medicine.
Jeremy served as the CEO of the Avielle Foundation and had a Faculty Lecturer appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale’s School of Medicine.
Following the murder of his six year old daughter, Avielle, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School Murders, Jeremy and his wife, Jennifer Hensel, started The Avielle Foundation, a neuroscience non-profit committed to preventing violence and building compassion through brain health research, community engagement, and education.

According to the Newtown Police Department, “On March 25, 2019 at approximately 7 a.m. Newtown Police with the Newtown Ambulance Service, Newtown Hook & Ladder Fire Dept. were dispatched to the Edmond Town Hall located at 45 Main Street to investigate the report of a suicide.
Upon arrival police with paramedics found Jeremy Richman, age 49, of Newtown deceased. Police with the State of Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the cause of death. The death appears to be a suicide, but police will not disclose the method or any other details of the death, only to state the death does not to appear to be suspicious.
As per normal protocol Mr.Richman’s body was transported to the Connecticut State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy that is expected to be done today.
