Jeanne Vander Myde Biography

Jeanne Vander Myde is a real estate agent and the wife of former Sen. John W. Warner of Virginia. John Warner and his wife Jeanne Vander Myde wed on December 15, 2003, after dating for several years. They first met 30 years earlier at a classic Washington event: an inaugural ball, when Jeanne engaged to marry Paul Vander Myde, a White House official and Navy reservist. Her fiancĂ©, an admirer of the senator said to her: “Oh, there’s John Warner. Let’s go over.” Jeanne’s husband, Paul Vander Myde, died in 2000.

Warner’s first marriage, to banking heiress Catherine Mellon, ended in divorce in 1973, while Warner was serving as Navy secretary in the Nixon administration. The settlement made Warner a millionaire with the means to enter political life. Three years later, he married screen legend Elizabeth Taylor, who turned Warner into an overnight celebrity and helped him win his Senate seat in 1978 in a close race. The two were divorced in 1982, as Warner focused on his Senate work.
