Originally from Crosby, Liverpool, Jack’s first job in the industry was as a kitchen porter at only 15 years old. It piqued his interest in food for the first time, and he became fascinated with how you could make things taste a certain way.
This led him into an illustrious career working at restaurants such as three Michelin starred Eleven Madison Park in New York, as a development chef for Gordon Ramsay, as well as working with Marcus Waring in the two starred ‘The Berkeley Hotel’ and ‘The Gilbert Scott’ (both now closed).
Based in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District, ‘The Cottage in the Wood’ serves dishes inspired by the beauty of their surroundings. Jack’s personal ethos – and that of his restaurant – is to celebrate seasonality, and to be mindful of the environmental impact of the restaurant. Jack Bond Great British Menu
33-year-old Jack Bond is a contestant on the 2025 series of the BBC’s Great British Menu (GBM). He won the Northwest regional heat and is set to represent the Northwest in the finals of the show. The Liverpool native competed against three other chefs from the Northwest region: Eddie Shepherd from The Walled Gardens in Manchester, James Hill from The Oak at Curthwaite, and Livia Alarcon from La Bistroteca in Liverpool.
Jack told Times $ Star: “I’m thrilled to go on to represent the Northwest, especially my hometown of Liverpool and the Lake District, which is where Beth and I have settled with our son and now call home.
“I’m hoping I can now do the region proud and get a dish through to the banquet, but I know finals week is going to be even more intense. I’m a pretty competitive person by nature, but I have to say that was an especially tough week.
“I have to say a big well done to my fellow competitors James, Livia, and Eddie, they all gave me a run for my money and above all else made the heat special to be part of. Now all I can do is wait to see who I’m going to be up against in finals week.”
Jack is competing in the finals of the Great British Menu 2025 against other regional winners: Mark McCabe, Amber Francis, Sally Abé, Jean Delport, Stevie McCarry, Daniel Ap Geraint, and Callum Leslie.
