Hillary Floren (born Hillary Matkin) is an American journalist currently working as a reporter for KVIA News from Lodi, California. She co-anchors ABC-7’s Good Morning El Paso. Dubbed the “Queen of Morning News,” in El Paso, Hillary Floren has been waking up viewers on the award-winning Good Morning El Paso show since 2002. Each weekday from 4:30 to 7 am, she and co-host Mauricio Casillas wake up morning viewers with headlines, weather, traffic, and a smile!
She joined KVIA as a weekend reporter. This was due to the fact that she was still in college. After graduating in 1998, she moved to Albuquerque with her husband. This was a bit tough to work with but the manager at KVIA asked her that she could fill in for the absent anchors or join in for the weekend job. Working with much effort she joined the Good Morning El Paso news segment. As of now, she broadcasts together with Mauricio Casillas for the 4:30 t0 7 am news.
Prior to working at KVIA, ABC- she had a broadcast job at KMSU. She went ahead and tried and that was her debut career in journalism. Before joining the ABC-7 team, she was a producer at KOAT in Albuquerque and anchored and reported for KRWG, the student-run station at NMSU in Las Cruces.
Her very first job was after High School. She had worked at a loan department at a bank. Her passion was to be a teacher. She even joined the New Mexico State University(NMSU) working as an elementary teacher for pre-school. However, after some time she wanted to try something a little different.
An advocate for children, Hillary’s weekly segment called “Education First,” received the National Service to America award for making a difference in the community. Good Morning El Paso has racked up dozens of awards over the years including “Best Newscast” numerous times.

She won the Miss New Mexico Teen USA competition in 1992 at the age of 17. She represented the state of New Mexico in the Miss Teen USA pageant in 1993. Hillary is active in the community and often emcees events. A former Miss New Mexico Teen USA, she often hosts pageants and spends time mentoring young girls.

Tom’s father Keith E. Floren died at age 74 on November 27, 2010, in El Paso, TX surrounded by his family. He was born June 5, 1936 in Wessington, SD to Arthur and Mabel Floren. He was retired from W.S.M.R. where he worked as a Physicist/ Engineer for many years. He is survived by his second wife Carol Wilson Floren, two sons Tom Floren and Ron Wilson; five daughters, Heidi McKinney, Lynne Poling, Amy Garcia, Dory Zowada, and Wendy Floren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sandra B. Floren and his parents.
