Greg Rowland MBE is a Master Wheelwright. He has appeared as an expert on BBC’s The Repair Shop, Bargain Hunt, and The Repair Shop on the Road. He also appeared on the Channel 4 series ‘How Britain Worked’ to teach presenter Guy Martin the art and science of traditional wooden wheel making.
Greg runs Mike Rowland & Son Wheelwrights and Coachbuilders, a firm started by his father in 1964 after serving an apprenticeship. With a family history in the trade stretching back to the 14th century, Mike Rowland and Son are a long established small family firm that produces the highest quality wooden wheels and vehicles.
Greg joined the family business in 1990 after serving in HM Forces as a Land Rover mechanic. He supported his father’s business as he gradually learned the craft by way of an informal apprenticeship. By the age of 25, he was making all the wheels in the shop, while his father Mike concentrated on vehicles.
In 2005, Mike Rowland & Son gained the Royal Warrant of Approval to Her Majesty The Queen in the position of Wheelwrights & Coachbuilders. They are one of only two firms responsible for the care and maintenance of the royal carriages.
Greg is a court assistant and liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights and was made a Master Wheelwright in 2014. He won the Heritage Crafts Association Trainer of the Year award in 2021. In June 2022, he was awarded an MBE in HM The Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours for services to Heritage Crafts.
