Gina LaPlaca is the mayor of Lumberton Township in Burlington County, New Jersey. She was first elected to the Lumberton Township Committee in 2020. She was elected mayor by the five-member committee in 2021 and won reelection in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Her term as mayor ends on December 31, 2025.
LaPlaca worked for the Jersey Shore-area Neptune Township since November 2021, serving as the assistant business administrator before being elevated to business administrator in January 2022. She resigned from the position before a township committee meeting on March 10, 2025, the Asbury Park Press reported.
“I’m extremely proud of the work I’ve done for the past three plus years in Neptune Township and grateful for the opportunity to work with some of the best and most talented employees around,” LaPlaca said in a statement to the Asbury Park Press. “I would have loved to continue that work, but unfortunately the changing political environment in town compelled me to take my talents elsewhere. I look forward to the next challenge and using my knowledge skills and abilities to the benefit of the public.”
LaPlaca held several counsel roles including a nearly three-year stint in the New Jersey General Assembly Majority Office. She then worked in the private sector for 11 years, first as the director of state affairs with Verizon, before taking on the regional director role at American brewery giant Anheuser-Busch for seven months, according to her LinkedIn profile.
LaPlaca attended Marlboro High School in Marlboro, New Jersey. She graduated with a B.A. in Political Science & Communications from the University of Pennsylvania and earned her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
