Erik van Rooyen is a South African professional golfer currently playing on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He won the 2019 Scandinavian Invitation on the European Tour, and the 2021 Barracuda Championship on the PGA Tour, his first PGA Tour title. He previously played on the Challenge Tour.

The South African native started playing when he was 7 years and began competing at age 14 years old. As an amateur, he recorded several wins including; the 2011 Southern Cape Open and the 2012 Minnesota State Amateur.

Rooyen turned professional in 2013 and played on the Sunshine Tour. On February 12, 2017, he earned his first professional victory on the Sunshine Tour; the Eye of Africa PGA Championship. He won in a three-man playoff after making a birdie at the first extra hole defeating South Africans Dylan Frittelli and Makhetha Mazibuko. In 2017, he competed on the Challenge Tour where he won his second professional victory on October 15, 2017, at the Hainan Open.

At the end of 2017, he finished runner-up at the Joburg Open, three strokes short of Indian, Shubhankar Sharma (winner). The event was part of the Open Qualifying Series and Van Rooyen’s finish earned him a ticket to the 2018 Open Championship, Erik van Rooyen’s first major championship. He finished in a tie for 4th at the 2018 Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open. In 2019, van Rooyen finished joint runner-up at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and the Hassan II Golf Trophy. He also recorded a top-10 finish at the 2019 PGA Championship.

On 25 August 2019, van Rooyen earned his first European Tour victory at the Scandinavian Invitation at Hills Golf & Sports Club, in Sweden. He won it by 1 stroke over English Matthew Fitzpatrick. In February 2020, he finished in a tie for 3rd at the WGC-Mexico Championship, the finish advanced Erik van Rooyen’s ranking to a career-best 40th on the Official World Golf Ranking. In August 2020, Van Rooyen finished T20 at the 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational earning a Special Temporary Membership for the remainder of the 2019–20 PGA Tour season. On August 8, 2021, earned his first PGA Tour victory at the Barracuda Championship. He defeated American Andrew Putnam and broke the tournament scoring record by shooting a total of 50 points over four rounds.

He was graduated in 2013, with a major in Business Marketing with a minor in Management.
