Emily Hesling is a potter and a contestant on The Great Pottery Throw Down 2026. She is the owner of Emily Hesling Ceramics, creating handcrafted pottery inspired by the restoration of wild habitats in the Highlands. Her practice is shaped by her background in ecology, with a particular focus on Scotland’s mountain habitats.

Emily’s designs feature many of her favourite plants and are created using a range of decorative techniques, including sgraffito, mishima and raku. She creates tableware, as well as jewellery and decorative work using impressions taken directly from leaves.

Outside of pottery, Emily is a habitat restoration ecologist and an ecological consultant specialising in upland vegetation and fungi, currently working on renewable projects in the north of Scotland for Nevis Environmental, based in Inverness, Scotland.

Ecologist Emily Hesling is a contestant on the ninth series of The Great Pottery Throw Down on Channel 4, hosted by BAFTA-winning actress Siobhán McSweeney, alongside judges Keith Brymer Jones and Rich Miller.

Emily thanked her family who made taking part in The Great Pottery Throw Down season 9 possible. She wrote: “I’ve been busy! Mainly on the train from the Highlands to Stoke. Many thanks to my lovely family who’ve made taking part in @potterythrow season 9 possible.”
