Darren Steele is a county court judge of the Martin County Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by Gov. Charlie Crist in May 2009 to fill a vacancy created after the death of Judge David Harper. He was re-elected unopposed in November 2010.
Before becoming a judge, Steele was an attorney at Watson & Steele Law Office from 2000 to 2009 and Crary, Buchanan Law Office from 1998 to 2000. Before going into private practice, he served as a public defender in the 19th Judicial Circuit from 1994 to 1998.
Judge Steele received his B.A from Tulane University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law. He also holds a Summer certificate in Comparative Law from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of Guanajuato, Mexico.
He is a former president of the Martin County Bar Association and the Healthy Start Coalition.

Judge Steele is an adjunct professor of criminal justice and paralegal studies at Indian River State College. He joined the faculty in 2016. A natural in the classroom, the college recognized him in 2019 as Adjunct Professor of the Year for public service education.
