Darline Graham Nordone is an American politician, serving as the United States senator-designate from South Carolina. She is the younger sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who passed away on July 11, 2026, at age 71, following a ruptured aorta related to cardiovascular disease, according to preliminary findings from the District of Columbia medical examiner released by his office.

South Carolina Republican Gov. Henry McMaster announced at a press conference on Monday, July 13, 2026, that she would fill her sibling’s seat in the Senate for the remainder of the term until January 2027. A special election will be held Aug. 11 for the GOP to pick a candidate in the November midterms.

“It is such a privilege to get to finish some of his important work, and I promise to work hard over the next several months to support the president and carry forward the efforts of my brother on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina and the United States,” Darline said.

“I think this is what Lindsey would have wanted, and I plan to honor him in this way,” she added, telling her departed brother: “I miss you more than I can even put into words, but I’m gonna do this. I got it. Thank you.”

Nordone had earlier in the day received the support of President Trump, who wrote on his Truth Social: “I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”

Nordone has worked as an optician and at various state agencies, including the South Carolina Commission for the Blind and the Department of Employment and Workforce. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the College of Charleston in December 1989. She later earned a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from South Carolina State University in 2009. Darline Graham Nordone and the late Sen. Lindsey Graham were the children of Millie Walters Graham and Florence James “F.J.” Graham.
