Dana Conway is a contestant on the 14th series of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4. A Database administrator from Essex, Dana’s passion for baking started at the age of 16 when she identified a gap in her family’s traditionally Indian culinary repertoire.

As a self-professed untidy baker, Dana would avoid stepping on her mum’s toes in the kitchen by catching the bus to her dad’s house to indulge her need to experiment with her bakes.

Now she has a kitchen of her own (and a cockapoo, Gracie, to clean up after her), Dana has become the family’s go-to celebration cake-maker. Her style is rustic and homely, but always pleasing to the eye. She loves a semi-naked cake with neat lines, pretty piping and minimalist decoration; and although she likes to keep her flavours safe, Dana will often incorporate a twist or two, adding in familiar spices associated with her Indian heritage.

Dana Conway is a contestant on the 2023 series of The Great British Bake Off, presented by Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.

Speaking ahead of the programme’s launch, Dana said: “After four years applying, I had pretty much given up, so my expectations were set extremely low. I was completely shocked to get the phone call that I had finally made it. It was such a surreal moment [seeing the tent for the first time], and something I had been waiting for such a long time and it finally happened. I was so excited to just get going and especially because someone else was doing the washing up. It was also a plus that my workstation was bigger than my entire kitchen.”

She added: “Walking into the tent for the first time, the 16-year-old me was doing flips and of course talking to Alison Hammond; forget about Paul Hollywood, it was all about the queen.”

Dana attended Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School in Upminster. She was congratulated by Sacred Heart and fans keen to see her on national televison.

“We are so proud of our former head girl Dana Conway who is appearing on the new series of The Great British Bake Off,” her former school posted on Facebook. “We send her our best wishes and will be watching.”
