Colin Kroll was a HQ Trivia and Vine co-founder.
He graduated from Oakland University with a degree in Computer Science. In 2006, started as a software engineer at Right Media, which was later acquired by Yahoo! After the acquisition, Kroll served as a engineering manager at Yahoo! for 2 years between 2007 to 2009.
After a few years as an engineer and then the Chief Technology Officer for Jetsetter, Kroll went on to co-found Vine in May 2012. Vine, a video-sharing application for smartphones, launched in 2012 and was later sold to Twitter in October 2012 for $30m (£24m). He served as Vine’s General Manager and stepped down from the position in April 2014.

Colin Kroll was found dead on December 16, 2018 in his apartment in New York. According to TMZ, Colin Kroll’s girlfriend called the police and asked them to check on him after she was unable to get in touch. Officers of the New York Police Department went to Mr Kroll’s flat in Manhattan to carry out a welfare check and found his body along with drugs paraphernalia nearby.
Kroll’s death was confirmed by an HQ spokesperson in a statement: “We learned today of the passing of our friend and founder, Colin Kroll, and it’s with deep sadness that we say goodbye. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
His HQ and Vine co-founder Rus Yusupov tweeted his condolences, “So sad to hear about the passing of my friend and co-founder Colin Kroll. My thoughts & prayers go out to his loved ones. I will forever remember him for his kind soul and big heart. He made the world and internet a better place. Rest in peace, brother.”
