Chris Parkes is a British Army Veteran, ceramicist and contestant on The Great Pottery Throw Down 2025. He is the owner of Mud Fox Ceramics, a studio offering bespoke, contemporary ceramics handcrafted in Durham, England.
Chris spent six years in the British Army and, during a deployment to Afghanistan, he lost his leg in an IED explosion. A few years later, craving a more active lifestyle, Chris left the army and took up archery, soon getting picked for the Invictus Games and the GB Athletic team.

Chris Parkes is married to Pippa-Rosy. Still very much a thrill seeker, Chris enjoys skydiving and even parachuted into his own wedding. He and Pippa welcomed their first child, a boy named Archer, on Friday 23rd August 2024. Chris and Pippa announced the birth of their child on Instagram, writing: “We are over the moon to announce the birth of our beautiful baby boy born on Friday 23rd August 2024.”
Chris Parkes Great Pottery Throw Down
36-year-old Chris Parkes is set to compete in series 8 of The Great Pottery Throw Down on Channel 4, presented by Derry Girls star Siobhan McSweeney. The show will follow 12 UK pottery artists as they aim to show off their grand artistic designs and fight to be crowned champion of the show. The show is judged by Keith Brymer Jones and Richard Miller.
The amateur potters will take on two challenges each episode, including a main make and skills test and hope to be crowned potter of the week along the way.
His studio, Mud Fox Ceramics, announced the news on Instagram, writing: “The secret is out and it was a hard one to keep! Chris will be on @potterythrow Season 8, so tune in to support our very own on 5th January, 7.45pm on Channel 4.”
“Whilst the captions on our social media platforms include lots of ‘our’ and ‘we’, it’s very much a one-man-band (with a wife cheering from the sidelines managing these pages). It has truly been a privilege to be a part of such a fantastic group of fellow potters, feeling the love from all four corners of the UK!”
