Jon’nae Smith, also known as chef Jaye Smith, is a pastry chef and a contestant on season 11 of Food Network’s Spring Baking Championship. She grew up watching Food Network shows with her father Johnnie L. Smith Jr., an avid cook.

The Miami-born pastry chef specializes in “creating cakes, cupcakes and dessert tables for life-defining moments” in her home base of Atlanta. She is the owner of GourNae Eats, a high end culinary brand offering premium dessert and pastry displays to celebrate life’s defining moments.

Chef Jon’nae Smith graduated from Langston Hughes High School at the age of 16. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business management and Marketing from the University of West Georgia in 2015. She went on to culinary school at Johnson and Wales University, graduating as a professionally trained chef in 2016.

Since graduating, she has worked in and around Atlanta as a pastry chef, including at Canoe under pastry chef Jennifer Paul, the Loews Hotel, the Hill at Serenbe, and with executive chef Demetrius Brown (also a Hill at Serenbe alum) on supper clubs at Bread and Butterfly. Smith began her baking career by interning at the Four Seasons in Atlanta and then at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in 2017.

Additionally, she is the co-founder of Nourish the Cause where the mission is to inspire, uplift, and empower communities by pairing the artistry of food with the heart of philanthropy. She is also a member of The New South, a black chef collective that curates unique dinner experiences around Atlanta.

30-year-old pastry chef Jon’nae “Jaye” Smith is a contestant on season 11 of Food Network’s Spring Baking Championship. The bakers are vying for the chance to win $25,000 and the title of Spring Baking Champion.

“We made it to FOOD NETWORK,” chef Jon’nae announced on Instagram. “I remember growing up watching food network OG’s Ina Garten, Rachel Ray, Guy Fieri and Emeril. I never imagined competing on the network that brought me joy when I was younger.”

“It was so hard holding this one in. I had so much fun filming this season and I’m very fortunate to have made new connections and relationships along the way. Thank you God for the plans you have for little ol’ me. Let’s see how this season plays out.”
