Charles Rogers was an American football wide receiver who played three seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He graduated from Saginaw High School. He played college football for Michigan State University, earned unanimous All-America honors, and was recognized as the outstanding college wide receiver in the country.

Rogers set several records during his two seasons at Michigan State, still the school’s leader in touchdown catches with 27, according to ESPN, and he was given a wide receiver’s top honor in 2002 when he made 68 catches and 13 touchdowns that season.

Rogers was selected with the second overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He played three seasons in the NFL from 2003 to 2005 for the Detroit Lions, but the athlete struggled with several serious, career-halting injuries and was suspended for multiple drug violations.

He appeared in only 15 games, catching 36 passes for 440 yards and four touchdowns. He caught 22 passes in the first five games of his rookie campaign before breaking his clavicle. He broke his clavicle again in his first game back the following season, according to NFL.

According to a 2017 article from USA Today, Rogers was working at an auto repair shop in Florida as he tried to rebuild his life post-NFL.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I offer my deepest condolences during this difficult time.”
