Channing Carson (Chan Lowe) is Carol Channing‘s son, a syndicated editorial cartoonist and political blogger. He was born in 1953 in New York City, New York, United States.
He graduated in 1975 with a degree in Art History from Williams College in Massachusetts. After graduating, he moved to Oklahoma, where he honed his satirical drawing craft at several local papers. He also served as a television critic, feature writer, classical music critic and county court reporter, as the situation demanded.
Lowe was employed as staff artist and editorial cartoonist for the Shawnee News-Star in Shawnee, Oklahoma from 1975 to 1977, and served as editorial cartoonist for the Oklahoma City Times from 1978 to 1984. From 1984 to 2015, Lowe was editorial cartoonist for the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale and a senior member of the editorial board of the Sun Sentinel.
He has won many awards for his work, including the Society of Professional Journalist’s Green Eyeshade Award twice, and the National Press Foundation’s Berryman Award. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1990. Chan also spent a year at Stanford as a John S. Knight Fellow from 1992 to 1993.
He has appeared on “The Daily Show,” “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “Larry King Live.” His cartoons have appeared in numerous national publications such as Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, etc., and on television. A kinetic sculpture by Mr. Lowe was exhibited in 1997 at the National Gallery for Caricature and Cartoon Art in Washington.
