In April 2025, Kohl’s CEO Ashley Buchanan was fired amid allegations of undisclosed conflicts of interest. Buchanan directed Kohl’s to strike a deal with “highly unusual terms” with a business founded by “an individual with whom Mr. Buchanan has a personal relationship,” the company said in a regulatory filing. He also awarded a “multi-million dollar” consulting contract to a team that included that same, unnamed individual.
That unnamed person, according to reporting by the Wall Street Journal, was Chandra Holt: a retail-executive-turned-entrepreneur, who launched her own coffee brand, Incredibrew, in January 2025. The nature of Buchanan’s and Holt’s relationship, according to the Journal’s reporting, was romantic and was not disclosed, in violation of Kohl’s code of ethics.
Just two days before the announcement of Buchanan’s firing, Holt posted on LinkedIn announcing a new feather in her cap.
“I’m excited to announce my new role as the Executive Chairwoman of Jonas Brothers Ventures! In addition to leading Incredibrew, I’ll also be spearheading new business opportunities tailored to or inspired by the Jonas Brothers,” Holt wrote in a post reviewed by the Journal Sentinel.
The announcement, along with another reference to Jonas Brothers Ventures, has since been removed from her LinkedIn.
In a statement to the Journal Sentinel, a spokesperson for Boston Consulting Group said the firm was “shocked to learn of the relationship between Chandra Holt and Ashley Buchanan.”
“We have strict guidelines for our senior advisors to disclose any conflicts of interest,” the firm said in a statement. “As a result of this non-disclosure, we have terminated Chandra Holt’s contract”
