Catherine Southon is an Auctioneer, Antique Expert, and Television presenter. She is known for her appearances on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip, and Flipping Profit. Prior to joining the Bargain Hunt show, she was working on Flog it for three years and then in 2006 was asked if she wanted to give Bargain Hunt a try !! and she has been on the show since then.
Catherine has worked in the world of antiques for over two decades. She started her career working at Sotheby’s Bond Street. She was initially responsible for cataloging sales in the Collectors Department, she later became the Head of Scientific Instruments and Maritime Works of Art, cataloging a number of prestigious sales including The Time Museum sale in New York and London. After an eight-year tenure at Sotheby’s Bond Street, she later became a freelance valuer and later established her own business, the Catherine Southon Auctioneers and Valuers.
From the early 2000s, she has made regular appearances as an antiques expert and presenter on a number of BBC Antiques programmes including ‘Bargain Hunt’, ‘Flog it!’, ‘Antiques Road Trip’, ‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is’, and ‘Trade Secrets’. Catherine has also contributed to a number of books including Judith Millers ‘Dictionary of Art and Antiques’. Catherine’s love is Modern British art and fine early silver. Her favorite item sold to date at our auctions is a pair of Victorian silver salts in the form of kangaroo’s which sold for a staggering £18,000.
