Ben Smith is a garden designer and a contestant on Interior Design Masters 2026 on BBC One. Stourbridge-based Ben has a love of vintage treasures, a passion for upcycling and an unexpected admiration for the Royal family – portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria proudly hang beside his bed.
Before turning to furniture design, Ben worked in hospitality and during lockdown he began restoring pieces found online. That passion soon grew into a desire to create full interiors that could house his upcycled furniture.
With portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria proudly hanging beside his bed, Ben really is an old soul at heart. Ben said: “I don’t think people expect a 27-year-old who’s covered in tattoos to love the Royal family and be into upcycling antiques. I guess I’m an old soul.”

Outdoor furniture designer Ben Smith is a contestant on series 7 of Interior Design Masters on BBC One. The series follows 10 design hopefuls competing for their big break in the world of interior design. Often hailed as the ultimate Interior Design competition, the show will be hosted by comedian Alan Carr, with interiors expert Michelle Ogundehin as head judge, joined each week by a roster of guest judges.
“This April, you’ll catch me on BBC’s Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr and Michelle Ogundehin,” Ben announced. “Chaos, creativity, and the biggest design challenge of my life. I’m beyond excited for you to see what went down.”
