Ben Robinson Biography – Ben Robinson Wiki

Ben Robinson is a British archaeologist and TV personality. He currently works as Principal Heritage at Risk Adviser for Historic England. He joined English Heritage as a Team Leader and Inspector of Ancient Monuments in 2009. The archaeologist has appeared as a contributor and television presenter for Channel 4, ITV and the BBC.

Ben, from Huntingdon, grew up in Sutton, near Earith, where he developed an interest in the village’s history, including exploring the old Second World War airfield. This combined with a love of flying led to his role as television’s Flying Archaeologist.

“I had always been interested in the history of the village and especially from my grandparents about how life used to be working in the fens and the changes over their lifetimes,” he told the Hunts Post.

“As a teenager I had also been interested in flying and joined the air cadets. I remember spending more time looking out over the side at the landscape than flying the aeroplane and was a bit worried when the instructor said I could go solo.”

As a presenter, his TV credits include The Flying Archaeologist (series, BBC Four, 2013), The Zeppelin Terror (BBC Four, 2014), Secrets from the Sky (series, ITV, 2014 with Bettany Hughes), The Last Journey of the Magna Carta King (BBC Four, 2015) and many regional Inside Out programmes that cover heritage themes in current affairs (BBC One 2013- present), according to hhb Agency.

The television presenter and archaeologist has co-presented three series of Channel 4’s Britain’s Most Historic Towns with Professor Alice Roberts (2018, 2019, 2020). In 2019, he presented the BBC series Pubs, Ponds and Power: The Story of the Village (BBC One, BBC Four, BBC Two). This was followed by Villages by the Sea, which ran on BBC Two in 2020 and a new series of the same name will be shown at primetime on BBC2, starting on 8 November 2021.

Archaeologist Ben Robinson earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Archaeology from the University of York in March 2008. His first book “England’s Villages: An Extraordinary Journey Through Time” was published by Blink in 2021. The book, published by Bonnier Books UK/Blink Publishing, takes a look at villages across the country from pre-history onwards, explaining how they developed, survived and thrived over the centuries, together with features like pubs and village halls and village names.
