Anthony Yanez is an American meteorologist who works for NBC4’s weekday newscasts at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. He is a holder of seals of approval with prominent weather organizations including the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). With over twenty years of broadcast news experience, he found his passion in weather. Before Los Angeles, he was the morning meteorologist for the NBC station in Houston, covering a wide spectrum of weather in the region. He helped viewers navigate through extreme heat, humidity, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes.
When he joined NBC4 in 2014, Southern California was in the midst of a historic drought. One of the first projects he worked on with the NBC4 weather team was the station’s 30-minute special, “El Nino: Currents of Change,” which won him his first Emmy. He was also amongst a team that won an Emmy for their coverage of the “Old Fire” in Calabasas. His passion is not only presenting an accurate forecast but also explaining why we are getting the weather we get. He is an active member of the community and is passionate about teaching youth about his profession. He is a published author of the children’s book A Wild Ride on the Water Cycle, A Jake and Alice Adventure, a tale of two water drops.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Mass Communications from the University of New Mexico. He earned his broadcast meteorology certificate from Mississippi State University. He is a sports enthusiast and has competed in cycling races, triathlons and half marathons. He also enjoys golf, tennis and skiing.
