Andy Ryan is a car mechanic and contestant in The Great British Bake Off (GBBO) 2024. As a child, baking alongside his mother, Andy first learned the much-loved family staples: apple crumble to follow a Sunday roast and Bakewell tarts made using pastry offcuts (to make sure nothing went to waste) among them.
Now, he bakes for his partner, Nickie, and hopes to inspire his daughter, Maisie, to follow in his baking footsteps – always with the aim of making his adored mum proud.
When he’s not in the kitchen, Andy is incredibly active. He plays football, goes to the gym and loves a long walk with Nickie, Maisie and their miniature Schnauzer, Arthur, as well as exploring the far corners of the country in their motor home.

Car mechanic Andy Ryan is one of the contestants taking part in the 15th season of The Great British Bake Off (GBBO) on Channel 4, presented by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.
He revealed the news on Instagram, writing: “Soooooo I’ve had this little secret. I’m actually not only just a mechanic but also a secret baker. I’m going to be on The Great British Bake off series 15. Unbelievable Jeff! Starting next Tuesday at 8pm on channel 4. Tune in and see me in the Great Big White Magical Tent!”
He added: “It’s an absolute dream come true and I’m so excited to have been invited into the Bake-off Family.”
The award-winning baking show will see 12 amateur bakers compete for this year’s baking crown. The other bakers taking part in the Great British Bake Off 2024 include Christiaan de Vries, Dylan Bachelet, Georgie Grasso, Gill Howard, Hazel Vaughan, Illiyin Morrison, Mike S Q Wilkins, Nelly Ghaffar, Sumayah Kazi, John and Jeff.
