Alex R. Hibbert is an American actor, known for Moonlight (2016), Black Panther (2018), and The Chi (2018). He made his acting debut in the Barry Jenkins-directed Moonlight, as the young protagonist Chiron. He appeared in the Oscar-winning film after his drama teacher, Tanisha Cidel, who played the principal in the film, told him to audition for the role of young Chiron.
The rising star has received 12 award nominations, winning six, including Best Ensemble Performance at the 2016 Gotham Awards and the Robert Altman Award at the 2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
In an interview for Hey U Guys, Hibbert revealed that he hopes to one day cure cancer. “What I wanted to do was either play football or be a scientist that cures cancer,” he said. “In middle school I didn’t know what to do with my life. I was a bit of a bad child, I’d always get in trouble because I had a lot of movement. But the drama programme settled me down, I can use my movement for good.”
